Step-By-Step Guide: How To Make A Wishlist On Amazon.com:

(I recommend opening up a new window and doing these steps as you read them)

(If you ALREADY have an amazon.com account, skip to step 11 to make your wishlist)


1) Go to Amazon.com SIGN UP

2) Type in your email Where it says "My Email"

3) Select the dot next to "No, I am A New Customer"

4) Click "Sign In Using Our Secure Server" (it's a yellow button with a blue circle on the right of it, that has a white arrow head in it)

5) Fill In Your Full Name Where It Says: "My name is"

6) Type Your Email Where It Says: "My e-mail address" and "Type it again"

7) Fill In Your Birthdate Where It Says: "Birthday"

8) Do NOT select the box next to "Corporate Account"

9) Type In Your Desired Password Where It Says "Enter New Password" and "Type It Gain" (I recommend NOT using the same password you use for myspace or for your email)

10) The next page is a page of items that the website recommends to you based on what you have already searched for or looked at on the website. Look thru these items and see if you like any of them. If you do, click "Add To Wishlist" next to those items you like.

11) To begin adding items to your wishlist, type anything in the search area to LOOK for the item in question. Lets Say You want the newest DIDO cd. Type in DIDO.

12) Now, on your left will appear different categories you can use to narrow your search. Since we chose Dido, and we are looking for her latest CD, we'll chose to narrow the search by clicking "MUSIC", then "Rock" and then "General". (Of course, if your a DIDO fan, you would have seen that as soon as you clicked "MUSIC" the 1st item on the list IS her latest Audio CD, so you wouldn't need to go any further, but for this example we did, to show you how much you can narrow down your selection to find the EXACT item you are looking for)

13) You now have several selections in the middle of your screen. Select the item you are lookng for. In this case, "Life for Rent by Dido (Audio CD - 2003)" In some case, there will be several pages for you to look thru.

14) This will take you to the description page for this item, click on the tan colored button on the right that says "add To Wishlist". This will add this item to your wishlist and give you a list of items that the website suggests to you, based on the item you just added to your wishlist.

15) You can add any of these, or you can continue looking for more items to put in your wishlist by starting at step 11 and repeating.

16) Now, you can add items to your wishlist whenevr you want, but for now, lets learn how to SHARE our wishlist with our friends and family.

18) On the right hand side of your screen (and this is on every page you veiw from your account on amazon) there is a button that says "Your Lists" that has a down arrow on it, scroll over the down arrow and a menu will pop down.

19) You'll see that you have six items you can click on: *Wish List *Your Media Library *Gift Idea List *Wedding Registry *Shopping List *Baby Registry. Click on "WISH LIST"

20) You'll notice that this takes you to your wishlist. You can change the QUANTITY of each item you want, the PRIORITY of the items on the list, DELETE items, Write COMMENTS on the items for people looking at your list, MOVE items from your wishlist into: a NEW wishlist, NEW gift idea list, or any wishlist, baby registry, or wedding registry you already have, OR to your shopping cart if you decide to buy it for yourself.

21) While you're in your wishlist, look to the left of the page. You'll see there are several things you can do to your wishlist there as well.

22) I want you to click on the link called "Avoid Spoiling Surprises". This one is a GREAT ONE! 'When a special occasion is coming up, an important part of receiving gifts is the anticipation and surprise. That's why you can now have your Wish List remember holidays and your birthday. Select any of the events below, and we'll make it so you won't see whether anyone has bought an item from your Wish List before the big day. Everyone loves a surprise!

Here's how it works: Even if someone buys you an item from your Wish List, it will still appear to you as unpurchased, so the surprise won't be ruined. But you don't have to worry about getting the same gift twice — other customers will see only those items that really haven't been bought yet.

If you want, of course, you can still see what items have been purchased by selecting "Only Purchased" or "All Items" from the Reveal dropdown menu on the main Wish List page.' -excerpt from Amazon.com

23) Once you are finished there, press save changes and that will take you back to your wishlist.

24) I'd like to draw your attention once more to the left hand side of your screen. You'll see a button that says : "Tell people about this list"! Click on it. A Bar will appear that says: "Loading" then a little pop up page will show that says:
"How do you want to share your list?
By E-mail
By adding a button to my web page
By adding a widget showing my recently added items to my web page
Your unique Wish List address is:

25) If you click "By EMAIL", it will ask you to enter the emails of friends and family you want to send the list to. :Lets do this now. Pick one or two, or however many people you want to email the list to and Enter e-mail addresses, separated by commas: (For example: jondoe@amazon.com, janesmith@imdb.com, Sherrypeck19825@protestant.com)

26) You can then press SEND EMAIL, or you can edit the message in the box where it says: "Add a personal message:
If you'd like to write your own message, just erase what's in the box below and type in the text you want to send. " Then, press SEND EMAIL. NOTE: Amazon.com will only use these e-mail addresses to send this message. They will NOT spam your family/ friends or sell them to their partners. So, just relax! >*.*<




27) Now that we are back at ourwishlist, once again, click on "Tell people about this list", then select the 2nd selection which says: "By Adding A Button To My Webpage"

28) There will be 5 buttons to choose from. Pick one and select the entire code in the box next to the button you chose. Use this code to paste on your website/ myspace/ livejournal/ etc. All You do is choose the part of your website (or whatever) that you want to paste it and, paste it. For this example, we'll paste our Wishlist as a NEW TOPIC on this Myspace Group.

30) On THIS screen, right click on BACK TO GROUP and choose OPEN IN NEW TAB or OPEN IN NEW WINDOW. This will take you back to our myspace group.

31) On the FORUM TOPICS area, click on NEW TOPIC. (NOTE: Do NOT post your wishlist as a new BULLETIN, post it as a new TOPIC)

32) As the subject, put "MY WISHLIST", then paste the code for your wishlist in the BODY of the message and click POST THIS TOPIC. A preview of it will come up, press POST THIS TOPIC again and your wishlist will now be posted on the forums of our group

33) Say you want to post your wishlist on your myspace profile, you can do this by opening up "EDIT" on your myspace home page and pasting this code in any section your want OR you can read the next step...

34) Yeah, it's nice to have a BUTTON on your myspace page for your wishlist but it is WAY more interesting to have a WIDGET there. Let me EXPLAIN

35) go back to the screen where your wishlist is. Click on the "Tell people about this list" if you have already closed that pop up window. Click on "By adding a widget showing my recently added items to my web page"

36) This widget is a self-updating button for your wishlist that shows people the last 3 things you added to your wishlist are. Everytime you add an item to your wishlist, the widget, whereever it may be that you placed it, updates itself to show that latest 3 items you've added.

37) Copy that code and paste it in whatever section on your myspace profile you want, you can do this by opening up "EDIT" on your myspace home page and pasting this code in any section your want. REMEMBER, the widget code and the button code can be used on OTHER websites, not just myspace. I am using myspace as the example, because this group is a myspace group. The widget can be clicked on to take you (or whomever clicks on it) directly to your wishlist to view it! So can the button!

39) To see an example of an Amazon.com wishlist WIDGET, go to Tammy's MySpace Profile and look in the GENERAL INTERESTS section!

40) Now here is the part about wishlists on AMAZON.com ! (At least, the part I like the MOST!) Say your friends/ Family don't want to buy you anything on your wishlist, OR the can't afford any of the items, OR they just can't choose between them! You can add Amazon.com GIFT CARDS to your wishlist so they can send you a gift card, for YOU to spend on whetever you want! THEY get to choose the amount they want to put on it! Come on! I'll show you!

41) Go back to the screen you have your wishlist on and on your left you'll see: "More to Explore: Your Gift Idea Lists, Gift Central, Gift Certificates/Cards, Free e-cards, Your Profile " Click on "GIFT CERTIFICATES/ CARDS'

42) This will take you to the description page for A"mazon.com Gift Certificate by Amazon.com>Price: $5.00 - $5,000.00> Availability: Immediate" Now, you don't get to choose the price of the card, THEY do. Just click on "ADD TO WISHLIST: on the right side of the screen. On the right you'll see a box that says "Added to: Wishlist" Click on that link!

43) Now you are at your wishlist again! See where it says "Desired" and then there is a number ONE in the box below it? I put 50 in there, that way each time someone buys a gift card off the wishlist, the item doesn't disappear off the wishlist.

44) See Where it says: "Amazon.com Gift Certificate" then it says "See Buying options"? click on That button. This is the page your friends or family will see when they are going to buy you a gift card. Under "READY TO BUY?" there is a drop down list where they can choose which way they want to send it to you! They can choose between sending it to you by way of an E-Card, or by sending the gift card to your email, or by mailing a PAPER versionof it to you! Let's choose EMAIL, shall we?

45) Once you choose email, click BUY NOW. Your family/ friends will have to sign in, or sign up on amazon to send you it, don't worry, it is FREE to sign up and they WON'T Get spammed! Since you clicked on BUY NOW, it will ask you to sign in, go ahead and do that now.

46) Completing Your Gift Certificate/Card Order is Easy for your family/ friends! All they need to do is Fill in the information and click "Continue." On this page, they can choose the amount they want to send you on your gift card, Enter "To" and "From" as you'd like them to appear on the gift certificate/card. (optional), Enter recipient's e-mail address, and confirm it, and also type in a message to send you!

47) Once they are done, they can press continue. This will take them to a secure page that will ask their credit card/ debit card info so they can pay for the card. Once they enter that info, they can press CONTINUE.

48) The next page will show them a summary of their order including its total cost. They can confirm their order or use their browser's "Back" button to the previous page to make changes.

49) For your family to perchase ANY item on your wishlist, they can do so by clicking on the "Add To Cart" button next to/ under the item on your wishlist and follow the simple directions given on each page there-after
